Japan: Tokyo (Haneda)
Haneda International Airport (HND)
BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: MONORAIL

BASICS
Haneda serves all Japanese domestic flights and China Airlines (Taiwan). The airport is 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Tokyo. Haneda's Web site is in Japanese only, but its airport map is kind of lovely to behold.

TAXI
A taxi to the city center (Tokyo Station) will be about 6,000 Yen ($55), and will take 40 to 60 minutes.

MONORAIL
A monorail to Hamamatsucho Station leaves every 10 minutes from Haneda. The monorail takes a little over 15 minutes to get to Tokyo. From Hamamatsucho you can take the subway or a taxi to your destination. The fare is 300 Yen ($3.50).

BUS
Airport Limousine serves many areas and hotels from Haneda. Go to the Airport Limousine Bus Counter for tickets and information on whether a bus goes to your hotel.

RENTAL CAR
Rental cars are available at the airport and various agencies throughout Tokyo. Driving is very difficult in Tokyo so beware, and you'll need an international driving permit from AAA or your local DMV. Avis, Budget, Hertz, Nippon, Nissan, and Toyota are only a few of many car rental firms operating in Tokyo.

BUS TO NARITA AIRPORT
If you are connecting to an international flight, you will probably have to go to Narita Airport. Airport Limousine Service goes from Haneda to Narita Airport (which is 44 miles (70 km) east of Tokyo). The Web site, incidentally, seems directed to Narita, but has needed information on the link between Narita and Haneda. The fare is about 3000 Yen ($30) and it will take 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic.
