| BEST WAY DOWNTOWN:
The airport is 16 miles (25 km) west of central Toronto. Travelers Aid has desks in all terminals in the arrivals area. They are helpful with maps, brochures, and general travel information. The airport's Web site is full of information, including:
Taxis are available outside all terminals, but are quite expensive. Fares are a fixed rate for the airport taxis, and will be around $35-$40 Canadian ($23-$26). The trip can take from 40 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic.
A good alternative to a taxi is the Hotel Airporter Bus (Airport Express Bus). It leaves from the arrivals level of all terminals every 20 minutes from 6:35 A.M. to 12:55 A.M. It is a large bus, not a mini-bus, so there is space for luggage. The fare to the downtown hotels is about $12 Canadian ($8). As with taxis, travel times varies between 40-60 minutes (plus), depending on traffic.
Pacific Western Company serves central Toronto hotels from all terminals. The buses leave every 20 minutes from 6:35 A.M. to 12:55 A.M. The fare is $12 Canadian ($8). The bus stops at major hotels and the trip takes from 40 to 60 minutes. Board the bus just outside of the baggage claim area; buy your ticket from the dispatcher at the bus stop.
Major rental companies are represented at the airport. Renting a car is advisable if you are going to several different areas in Toronto during your stay. Parking is available in the city, and if you have time, a nice drive along Lake Ontario is a good way to enjoy a bit of Toronto.
