BASICS
Hartsfield is located 10 miles (16 km) south of the center of Atlanta. A Travelers Aid station is located on the west cross-over bridge between the North and South terminals. The airport's website has:
Delta Airlines also offers a terminal map, including gate numbers.
TAXI
If you're carrying a lot of luggage, a taxi is the best way to go. You'll find them outside the baggage claim area. The fare into the city is about $16, and the ride will take 20-30 minutes.
TRAIN
Atlanta rapid transit system or MARTA trains leave from stations near the North and South Terminal baggage claims. The trains are clean, fast, leave frequently (every 8 min. weekdays), and have plenty of space for luggage. The train will take you directly to the city center, near many large hotels, for around $1.50. Purchase your ticket at the station, before boarding the train.
BUS
The Atlanta Airport Shuttle departs from the ground transportation area about every 20 to 30 minutes, from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. It serves the major downtown hotels, and takes from 25 to 40 minutes, depending on your stop. The fare is approximately $10 one-way depending on your destination, and tickets are sold in the ground transportation area. The shuttle also offers more limited service to other sections of Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs.
RENTAL CAR
If you'll be traveling to areas outside downtown, a rental car is strongly recommended because of the distances between the airport, the hotels and the city's business centers. All major rental car companies have offices both at the airport and downtown.
